Apple releases Macbooks with new M2 processors in a rare January launch
According to Apple, the new M2 Pro contains about 20% more transistors than the M1 Pro and twice as many as the M2 Pro.
The M2 Pro and M2 Max CPUs from Apple Inc. were presented on Tuesday in a surprise debut that was weeks ahead of plan.
The roll-out of the products employing Apple’s most recent M2 chips, which the company unveiled last year, is a result of the tech giant’s intention to switch to its own semiconductors in 2020 after 15 years of reliance on Intel’s technology.
Starting on January 24, the new Mac mini will be offered for $599. The pricing of a 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 processor is $1,299, while the 14-inch and 16-inch models start at $1,999 with the newest CPUs.
The debut of the new Macbook Pro models was postponed from last year to early 2023 because to supply-chain concerns, according to a report from Bloomberg News in October.
“Everything here is related to the delayed chipset switch. Due to the delay, Apple must decide whether to wait for the customary, anticipated debut or to actually do something novel “said Runar Bjrhovde, an analyst with Canalys.
When the overall personal computer market is experiencing a downturn, Bjrhovde remarked, “This is a terrific opportunity to throw things around and surprise the consumers and competition.” He added that the news might create some buzz.
Apple’s stock increased by nearly 1%, outperforming a generally declining market. The stock fell by roughly 27% in 2022, which was the greatest decline since the financial crisis of 2008.
Programs like Adobe Photoshop can handle heavy workloads “faster than ever” because the new M2 Pro’s roughly 20% more transistors than the M1 Pro and double the quantity in M2.
According to a Gartner survey released on Tuesday, the business, which sources its chips from Taiwan’s TSMC, displaced chipmaker Nvidia as one of the top ten semiconductor vendors by revenue last year.
“In 2022, we project that the market value of these (Apple) processors will be $17.6 billion. The cost-related expansion of increasingly complicated chips, “VP Analyst at Gartner, Andrew Norwood, remarked.
When it releases its iMacs and accessories in March, Apple typically hosts its first event of the year. According to a Bloomberg News article from earlier this year, a long-awaited augmented reality headset could be unveiled at this year’s spring festival.
