Google has acquired avatar AI startup Alter, which offers a technology suite for developers that can be used to create avatars.
Facemoji or Alter will give game developers the opportunity to build their own avatar systems.
According to TechCrunch, the company was founded as Facemoji and raised $3 million last year from an initial round, led by Play Ventures, with participation from Twitter and Roosh Ventures.
After Apple’s Memoji, Alter aims to give game developers the opportunity to build their own avatar systems without plugins on different networks.
Using SDKs (Software Development Kits), the startup introduced a real-time 3D avatar system with features including facial motion capture, similar to 3D avatars in the TikTok app.
Google is vying ambitiously against the popular China-based social platform for better content after a company spokesperson confirmed that the acquisition took place two months ago.
