Elon Musk seeks documents from ad tech firms for more information on bots and spam accounts
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is trying to walk away from a deal to buy Twitter Inc, is seeking documents from the ad tech company as he seeks more about Twitter bots and spam, according to a Delaware court filing Thursday. part of the account information.
Twitter has sued the Tesla CEO, who accused Twitter of withholding information about how it calculates the percentage of bots on the service in an attempt to walk away from the $44 billion deal. A trial is scheduled for October 17.
Musk’s attorneys have subpoenaed Integral Ad Science (IAS) and DoubleVerify for any documents or communications they were involved in the audit or any audit of the Twitter user base.
New York-based IAS and DoubleVerify use technology to independently verify that digital ads are being viewed by real people. Advertisers use services to ensure potential customers see the ads they pay for, not automated bots.
Twitter, IAS, and DoubleVerify did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In response to a tweet from a user questioning how Twitter audited its services and linked to a Reuters report about Musk targeting ad agencies, Musk responded: “These are questions Twitter is doing everything it can to avoid answering. … ..”
In a countersuit earlier this month, Musk claimed Twitter had 65 million fewer monetized daily active users than the company touted. Twitter said it was committed to disclosure.
According to Twitter’s filings, the metric measures users who log into Twitter via websites or apps that can display ads or use paid products such as subscriptions.
