Netflix considers requesting biometric identification to prevent password sharing

As company revenue suffers, the video streaming platform NetFlix is under heavy pressure due to account-sharing issues.

An analyst predicted that streaming giant Netflix could address the password-sharing issue by requesting fingerprints or facial recognition from users.

Netflix announced plans to reduce password sharing as it affected revenue for the platform. Given this, leading research and advisory firm, CCS Insight anticipates that the video-streaming platform may require users to verify their presence by requesting biometric proof.

Ben Wood, the senior analyst at CCS Insight, said Netflix is under a lot of pressure regarding the account sharing issue.

The platform recently introduced a new system that will allow subscribers to add an additional member to their account for an additional fee.

The fee has yet to be determined, but it is expected to be a quarter of the original fee.

The platform has struggled to retain its subscriber base due to stiff competition from streaming platforms such as Disney+, Apple TV, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime.

Netflix lost about 1 million subscribers in the first half of the year. Since then, he’s worked on various plans, such as an ad-based model with Microsoft, to maximize revenue.
