SpaceX gets Permission to Launch US Spy Satellites into Space 2022

The US Space Force has officially allowed SpaceX to carry spy satellites into space for the federal government

The Space Force, the newest command of the US Armed Forces, has allowed SpaceX to launch a top-secret spy satellite using a Falcon Heavy rocket with a reusable boost.

It has pledged to save federal money by cutting the cost of putting satellites into orbit, and the Space Force has already saved $64 million with its reusable Falcon 9 rocket, according to Bloomberg.

The first mission is expected to launch between October and December to hand over the satellite to the National Reconnaissance Office. They issued a certificate to SpaceX in June, but it wasn’t revealed until recently.

Air Force officials are still reviewing the approach for the 39 national security launches scheduled for the 2025-27 fiscal year. SpaceX’s certification dealt a temporary blow to rival rocket producers such as the United Launch Alliance.
