Twitter’s verification system is expected to be implemented within a few days.
Reportedly, Twitter’s new revamped verification system will have two tiers, one for a paid verification subscription and the other a blue check mark for select official accounts.
The latter won’t be available for a fee, according to Twitter VP Esther Crawford.
In a series of tweets, Crawford emphasized that official verification would only be for “government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media, publishers, and certain public figures.”
The new extra level appears to have come in response to criticism levelled at the company since its new CEO, Elon Musk, announced a paid subscription for verified accounts, letting you do business with just about anyone on the Internet.
Critics were concerned about imitators and fraudsters taking advantage of the system. Although Musk addressed the criticism with a plan to ban all accounts attempting to impersonate others, App users responded by changing their name to Elon Musk to prove his point.
Twitter’s verification system is expected to be rolled out within days, Engadget reports.
