YouTube updates its dark theme features and adds video zoom
YouTube is gaining new interface design features and additional tools like pinch to zoom in or out for users.
Video streaming platform YouTube will implement a new design after 17 years, including new features aimed at creating a “more modern and immersive viewing experience.”
Dark theme and pinch-to-zoom are one of the many features added to the popular media-sharing platform.
The new Ambient Mode has a subtle effect on the app’s background color, which changes with the video content. Themes are available on the web and mobile apps, giving users a subtle color glow under the video. The video playlists have been adapted with a new look and interface to attract users.
“Color was an important theme for us during the development phase. We wanted to add vibrancy to our apps without detracting from viewer habits,” says UX Director Nate Koechley.
According to him, YouTube links added in the descriptions below the video will appear as buttons, while commonly used actions such as liking and sharing will be coordinated so that they are less distracting to viewers.
“The subscribe button is also being improved, the new look and increased contrast make it really special, and while it’s no longer red, it’s easier to find and more accessible to everyone on watch and channel pages.”
Users can much need the zoom feature as it ensures ease when watching videos on iOS and Android apps. To capture specific moments, the pinpoint search feature will allow desktop and mobile users to swipe or swipe up to view a row of scrollable thumbnails.
New updated features are expected to roll out to users in the coming weeks.
